Moving right along now… the next day. First full day at Disney: We decided to go to Epcot because we had a character lunch at Akershus in Norway. We did a late start at about 10am (getting an early start is better because the lines get long towards the lunch hour). Basically we spent the morning walking around Epcot and really enjoying the landscape. We got to Akershus in time to discover how somewhat rude folks can be (no surprise there). Rude? Well at the door there’s a Disney staff person getting names and allowing folks to sign in (those of us that had reservations have to sign in to indicate that we are there…and of course since I had to hold a reservation on a credit card, one can be sure that we were there). So on the point of Rudeness…. In front of door is a bunch of people standing around…basically in the way of folks that are trying to get to the staff member so our name is on the list. Why are they standing in the way? Stupid or Rude? Not really sure which…but it was a bit annoying. Well, I finally got our name on the list and we did get in fine (a lot of those rude folks were still standing at the door when we started our lunch).
Character lunch at the Akershus… the lunch was quite good and the having the nice looking characters walking around was not bad either… personally I think the character breakfast at the Crystal Palace is a couple of notches better (I’ll talk about that later). But all in all it was good…especially for the little ones.
After lunch we decided to head over to MGM Studios…. On our way out to the transit site we noticed that SpaceShip Earth(the big golf ball) had no line…so we jumped in line at went right in… it’s a nice cool ride that takes you through the eras of communication… not high on the entertainment scale but a cool slow ride anyway.
So over to MGM, we walked around to get the lay of the land and then we visited the Muppets 3D… great show for all ages. Dinner was at the Brown Derby… the service was nice and the food was top notched, but the food service was very slow… two hours and a half to get through it… personally, coming to Disney is about doing the attractions not sitting and waiting for food to show up. The food was good, but the service needs help.
Later towards night, we decided to head over to Disney Downtown. Not a bad place to visit, but beware of the crowds. The latest Disney Store on the planet lives over at the Downtown. For those that are not in the know, downtown is divided into three main sections. The West Side, East Side, and Pleasure Island in the middle. Basically from what I can tell, Pleasure is an adult place to go and drink (not a priority on my list), but if you’re into “clubbing and drinking” looks like a fun place. East side (called Market Place) is all Disney. The large store, the lego store, ect are all there. On the West side, it mostly non-Disney other stuff like the Magnetron. Anyway, there were lots of people and the Disney Store, wall to wall people.
After walking around a bit, we headed back to the resort to turn in for the night. The boat trip back to the resort is very relaxing…especially after a hard day of “doing the parks”.
