One can not help but to comment….or at least make a note about… a story coming to the big screen… V for Vendetta. Application for happenings in our times… possibly yes. Certainly no more or less than Orwell’s “1984”.
Now, I’ve read the old stories from which this movie and characters are based upon… and the general story follows a line of thought that is rooted in the abuses of government and power that lead to the subjugation of the governed (some might observe at this point….how art imitates life). Of course in this story line the abuses are mingled with the use of Fear to control and to fight back (sound familiar?)….and thus within the story the opposing forces become set in battle and their primary weapon is Fear.
An interesting phrase: “Words will always retain there power for those who will listen to the annunciation of truth….” - of course one needs to be careful with such thoughts because while this phrase is a good battle cry in the fight against oppression….it can also be used to create support for the oppressors (and we certainly in these times are well aware of distortions of the truth by our benevolent government- can you spell WMD?)
Anyway, if one can get pass the obvious use of violence in the movie…one can not do a Vendetta story without some violence….then there maybe an interesting story here worth looking at…
