Ok, finally off my backside and writing, OMG, a movie review of all things… Yes, I’m one of those like hugest, biggest, reasonably well versed movie, cinema etc… people.
Ok, Avatar… saw it yesterday… and for the most part I liked it. It paced along at a decent rate for a ~two plus hour movie. Is it the best yet in it’s genre (Fantasy SciFi mix)? Well, not really. I did fine it entertaining and mostly through the length of the movie (and there’s lots of movie), I stayed interested. I do think that the characters could have been developed more (after all it does go over the limits of being able to down a Large Soda and stay seated). The main character (Sully) played by Sam Worthington seem the most developed of any of the characters. But even his character seem to be missing a bit. Missing mostly on some emotional levels…maybe less “Video Logs”- “Video Twitter” and more interaction with other characters would have helped. Sigourney Weaver, always nice to see around.
As far as all of the “Jar-Head” / Corporate greed noise it seemed a little over-baked given the plot as a whole. I mean the first “new meat” speech given by the Jar-Head colonel as to how really bad “worst than hell” a place this planet is…this plays a bit funny given his actual attitude in the combat scenes. “Blue-Monkeys with Bows and Arrows…lets get this started so I can get home in time for an early dinner”… Ok, you’re either really aware of what kind of hell hole you’re in, or you’re stupid arrogant to think that you can’t get your arse handed to you? But to be both ways…coming from the same character?
Anyway, maybe I’m expecting way to much from the characters… I do give it good marks for story (all be a bit predictable) and the Weta effects… spot on.
If you don’t want to sit for the movie length, then definitely check it out when it hits Blu-Ray… as far as seeing it in 3D Imax… way too much screen time and screen movement for me to enjoy such a long film.
3.75 out of 5 would be my rating…
